Two summers ago I went to Yellowstone with Tate and his family while we were dating (photos here and here). Even though we live in Idaho and live so close to Yellowstone we never find time to make it out there. So on Thursday night Tate and I drove to the park entrance and stayed in a hotel and got up early in the morning to drive to the park (which was perfect timing since it's closing for the season next weekend).
Since we went to the "lower loop" our first time, we decided to drive the "upper loop" (the park is essentially split into two large loops with different natural attractions). One of the first things we saw were a herd of buffalo. They walked up to our car and one even nudged us! It was a pretty incredible experience being surrounded by these huge wild animals all to ourselves.
The upper loop has more mountains and less geysers but was still really neat. The entire drive Tate and I kept mentioning how lucky we are to live so close to such a beautiful place and even luckier that we had the park to ourselves. At one point we pulled off to the side of the road to eat lunch and the only thing we could hear was nature and each others voices. I guess you could say it was pretty romantic.
Exploring makes us happy people; hopefully we can get one or two more fun adventures like this before the snow starts!
