summer palace.

^^Bundled up. It is SO cold here.^^
This is the "marble boat". An empress had this boat made for herself completely out of marble. I'm not sure how/if it actually floats... but the idea of it all is fascinating!
Today was our last day in Beijing. I love this city but I'm  ready to move into our own and start some sort of routine. We took a long subway ride to Summer Palace, a place where emperors and empresses would come during the summer to escape the hot heat in Southern China (ha, a very brief summary).

If there was one thing that I could highlight about the Summer Palace it would be ice skating. In China they have seats that have blades on the bottom and you push yourself with ice picks. It was unlike anything I've ever seen in America and 1000x better than wearing actually ice skating.

On another note, we have had some changes. We were going to teach at a University in Nanjing (which would have been totally awesome!) but we're now teaching in Suzhou and teaching kindergarten. It's a huge change, but the University was being flakey so we knew it would be better to work with a school that would work with us, instead of causing a headache. So. Suzhou it is!

  1. I looooved the Summer Palace! And awhhh, I'm sad that you aren't going to Nanjing anymore, but Suzhou is a much prettier city anyway. You'll love exploring all the manors from yesteryear!
