valley of fire state park, nevada.

For Memorial Day we drove to Valley of Fire State Park, just outside of Las Vegas. I've wanted to go here for quite some time now, and before it gets too hot here (not sure how I'll manage in the Summer since it so hot today?!)

^^Fire Wave. THIS was the reason I wanted to go to Valley of Fire. It was a quick 1.2 mile hike to this area and the views were totally worth it. Fire Wave reminds me of The Wave in Arizona, only it's free and you don't have to wait over a year for permits...^^

^^I mean, come on. So unreal! These rock formations are over 450 million years old.^^

^^Natural Arch Rock. Unfortunately there were signs everywhere telling us we couldn't climb the rock, but it was pretty to look at.^^

^^We hiked another trail called Mouse's Tank. Along the way were hundreds of petroglyphs from over 4,000 years ago. There was a translation map at the beginning of the trail so it was interesting being able to interpret a few of the glyphs here and there.^^

^^Atatl Rock. We climbed those stairs to see petroglyphs along the flat face of the rock. Atatl is a notched stick used to throw primitive spears and is the most famous petroglyph on the rock. One of the coolest parts about seeing petroglyphs is imagining how they actually climbed the rock to etch in the wall. I couldn't have done it without those stairs ;)^^

^^Elephant Rock.^^

Note to Self: Next time we go to Valley of Fire, let's camp?!

  3. What a place. The patterns in those rocks are incredible. Looks like a wonderful place to visit, nothing like this where I live, (just beaches and forests). And the colour of those rocks, just glorious against that blue sky.

    Thanks for sharing,
