great wall of china.

Today we went to the Great Wall of China from the Mutianyu entrance in Beijing. This section of the wall was built during the early stages of the Ming Dynasty and is known for having a lot of watch towers and sections sitting on giant cliffs.

There are several different entrances to the Great Wall and this one was really low key. Since the weather is so cold in Beijing right now no one wants to come here. It was great for us because we had miles of the wall to ourselves. I know the walls were built as a battleground but I couldn't help thinking the experience was totally romantic.

One of the best parts about the Great Wall was the trip down (the hike just to get up to the wall was extremely steep with over 1,000+ steps). We paid 60 Yuan, which is only about 8 dollars, to take a 3 minute sketchy aluminum slide down the mountain. Tate and I never pressed the brakes and were riding full speed while getting yelled at by the workers at every corner.

  4. I'm so glad you're sharing this stuff on your blog, I'm loving reading along with your adventures in China! Also jealous of you, of course (especially since I'm typing this sat at my desk at work, which is infinitely less cool than being on the great wall of China...)
